Dream - 0126 - The Music Exchange

The Line getting into the music exchange

Last night Rhonda and I went to the music exchange in San Francisco. I went there once before in the 80s. They gave me a door prize of a ghetto blaster. 3-4 feet wide. 2 feet tall. Detachable speakers. Am fm cassette and 8 track. 3 inches deep. It was made to impress but was so cheaply made it was obvious the sound would be bad. I thought I’d return it as a joke - I had never used it any way.

The line to get in was long. Actually it went around the corner. I’m lugging that stereo around. Actually the neighborhood has really gone down hill. There’s a junk yard across the street. The apartment complex is dark grey but in need of paint. Many of the black grill shaped balconies are damaged.

It’s dark outside when we finally got in, we are the last customer. We’re greeted by a salesman, carrying a name brand handbag. She’s obviously very proud of it. She locks the door. She walks us back to her office. There’s music stuff all over the place. Drums, guitars, keyboards way over there, dvds, ECT. Actually a lot of the store in the back is open air. Kind of like a flea market.

The inside is pretty messy

It’s about closing time so I see some people putting away or covering the items outdoors.

I sit down and reflect that last time I was there, I got paperwork for a home mortgage but never followed through with it. They mention that they are no longer in the mortgage business. And I realize… Why did I reminisce that at a music sales store?

I give back the stereo, the salesman gives me a new door prize. Ugly plastic running shorts with speakers sewn into the leg area. Hmm ugly and they will cause chapping. Rhonda doesn’t want it either. I think I’ll forget to take this home.

I want to see the keyboards. The salesman starts walking us over there, but in an Ikea pattern. Maybe focusing on things before they are covered. Lights are starting to turn off.

A Building similar to the buymore, however there is a sign that says 'music exchange'.

There is a line of people trying to get in. A few are carrying musical instruments like guitars and keyboard synthesizer.

The front of the building is in perfect condition, but as you look at the side of the building, you can see it deteriorating, getting worse as it reaches the back of the building.

I'm inside a large/giant shopping center. A store that specializes in selling musical instruments. There's islands of shipping displays.
