Eva Rodriguez - the Counterfeit Dairy Queen

True story.

One day, i was dating the lovely Rhonda. I kind of made an agreement to myself to never take her to a junk food restaurant. In the 15+ years were been together I’ve kept up with that except for 2 exceptions. Traveling cuisine, and ice cream treats.

There was a time when I lived in Sacramento, and Rhonda lived in Yuba City. I really loved ice cream. So, for variety we would go to Dairy Queen. I would get the largest chocolate blizzard possible.

One day I decided I was gaining weight and thought a reasonable way to lose weight was to still go to Dairy Queen, but get smaller servings. I decided to start experimenting with popsicles. I discovered buster bars. It’s like they filled a cup with chocolate chunks and then filled with ice cream. After it froze they’d remove it from the cup put a stick on it and then dip it in chocolate and peanuts.

It was great! After a while I’d order 6 at a time, they’d put then in a brown bag, I’d scarfle one by the time o got home and put the rest in the freezer for the next couple of days.

One day while I was in Yuba City, I ordered a 6 pack and it was different. They gave me a box of buster bars! They were smaller than the ones from Sacramento and they just weren’t as good. I guess in the big cities they make their own.

One day I went to a different Dairy Queen in Sacramento, and ordered a 6 pack and they also have me a box of buster bars.

Then it occurred to me. .. that first Dairy Queen was/is counterfeiting ice cream bars!

Many times when I order Ice cream bars, I also order a burger and fries. That last order of ice cream bars and burger, I noticed the burger was not up to the high standards of a dairy queen burger. I think on my next visit, I’ll go inside asking why the buster bars are different then the other DQs.

And so, on that next visit I went inside and noticed something.. on the menu many items were taped off with electric tape. After looking at the sign I figured it out. They lost their dairy queen franchise! The black tape was one the words dairy queen, several menu items, and on the graphical posters, the little loops on top of the ice cream comes were taped off.

A few weeks later they changed their name from Dairy Queen, to Dairy Freeze. And recently they changed their name to Burgers and Shakes.
