Eva Rodriguez - The M&M Debocle

So… Rena’s about to get married. Her last name will start with an M. We thought, wouldn’t it be nice if we included the letter M as one of the themes in the wedding. We are assembling little gift bags. We will include M&M’s.

Isn’t that cute?

While we’re at Costco, we find these gloriously large jars of M&M’s. I immediately pickup 2 jars of M&M’s. You know. One for me, and one for everyone else. Or maybe one and a half for me, and 1/2 a jar for the others. Or maybe one and 7/8 for me and a few in each of the kid gift bags.

Of course for the gift bags you must include the same number of each color in each bag, or there’ll be all hell to pay. Or at least, that’s what what happens when there’s a M&M color count mismatch in the packages I normally buy.

So I put about half a cup into a saucer and I begin the process, sorting out the defective M&M’s!

First, half of those M&M’s were blank. So they went into a defective pile. The rest of the M&M’s were not just m’s, but there were also E’s, 3’s and W’s. So the E’s, 3’s and W’s also go into the defect pile.

When I look at the two piles, we have the m’s which is about 12% of the M&M’s then we have the defect pile which is almost 88 percent of them!

This reminds me of peeling potatoes. If 87% of the potatoes is bad- you throw the whole bag out!

But with M&M’s it’s worth keeping the 12%. After all, it is mostly chocolate.

Any way, it’s time to bag the good ones.

It’s a pity we are in summer, all this M&M’s are going to melt in the garbage bin and make a big mess in the coming weeks.
